Yoruba Language Task Force
History ¬ Activities ¬ Members ¬ Materials ¬ Programs

In 1994, the African Language Teachers' Association (ALTA) formed three language Task Forces: Yoruba, Swahili, and Hausa. Working in consultation with the National Council of Organizations of Less Commonly Taught Languages (NCOLCTL), ALTA created these Task Forces to strengthen the field of instruction and to bring about the development of teaching materials for the three languages.

One of the Yoruba Language Task Force's first goals has been to identify current teachers and programs in the field, and to recruit an initial advisory board. To this end, a questionnaire was distributed to all Linguistics and African Studies programs in the U.S. and Canada. You can view some of the results on the Programs page.

Since 1994, all three Task Forces have operated on limited funding support from ALTA and NCOLCTL. If they are successful, they will serve as models for additional and regional language Task Forces.
