The story "Qwebethe" is composed of a single pattern. In
more
complex tales, more than one pattern will be used. Sometimes
these patterns are serially developed -- that is, one pattern is
wholly developed, and then a second is developed, and then a
third. In more sophisticated storytelling, however, the patterns
are developed simultaneously. In the Mbuti tale, "The Fifi Bird,"
there are two patterns, a central pattern that runs through the
story, and a subsidiary pattern that is linked to that central
pattern at times during the performance.
